"We have been hoteliers for a relatively short time, but have undergone a rapid learning curve," says owner Atilay Uslu. In the atmospheric lobby of the Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Hotel, we have a nice conversation with Atilay and his new sales director Niels Brugman.

Total experience

 Atilay started his first hotel in Amsterdam-West in 2012, followed within a short time by The College Hotel in Amsterdam-Zuid and the Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Hotel, Corendon Apartments and the Corendon Urban Hotel in Badhoevedorp. The organisation now also has six hotels in Curaçao and Turkey respectively.

"We want to offer a total experience. Our guests deserve more than just a bed, a restaurant and a flawless Wi-Fi connection. All our hotels feature our own modern-styled Mondi restaurants and an atmospheric bar-lounge. Guests everywhere can enjoy the extensive Spa-Wellness facilities and a swimming pool. The fitness areas are also above-average. At Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, we even have our own cinema, hotel shop and Mondi Skybar 747. From the club you have a great overview of our national airport Schiphol and the region. At the opening of this hotel, we received international acclaim when we had a real Boeing 747 placed in the backyard." Says Atilay. 

Impressive how this young organisation has managed to establish itself so quickly in the highly competitive hotel market.           

Re-branding

Full of pride, Atilay goes on to talk about the re-branding of his Dutch hotels. For this, he chose a partnership with Marriott International. This includes the largest reward programme Marriott Bonvoy. The international chain offers many synergy, recruitment and sales benefits. The re-branding also offers better access to, among others, the growing US market, both at Leisure and corporate level.

The original Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Hotel in Badhoevedorp will become part of the Tribute Portfolio. Corendon Apartments will become a Residence Inn hotel and Corendon Urban a Fairfield. All based on their image, service level and corresponding target groups. With the choice of the indicated brands, Corendon has made a central effort to 'upgrade'. For that reason, the various hotels have recently been partly renovated and/or restyled in a sustainable manner.   

Brugman: "Simultaneously with the re-branding, we will focus more specifically on the MICE market with the Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel. This hotel, less than one kilometre from Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam-Sloten, features modern overnight facilities for up to 1,000 guests. The hotel also offers 11 professional meeting rooms, for groups of up to 400 participants. Now that we are affiliated with Marriott International, the world is more open to us than ever!". 
 
Niels Brugman, just new to Corendon as Sales Director, is currently working on new Sales strategies for directly approaching new leads and is looking for new business opportunities. Based on his years of experience at WestCord Hotels, Hotels van Oranje and Maritim Hotels, among others, he is more than entrusted with that.

Partnership

Corendon Hotels in Badhoevedorp has been a partner of Convention Bureau Event Park since its establishment in 2018. The convention bureau is an independent initiative of the convention and event industry in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer. It focuses on recruiting and facilitating international (business) congresses and events. The bureau advises and assists prospects in their search for one or more suitable Haarlemmermeer-based hotels, meeting venues and/or suppliers and, if desired, also supports in the first phase of planning and organising a congress or event in the Haarlemmermeer event region.
